During the first half of May, Professor Aníbal Pauchard visited two universities and the UFZ in Germany to explore collaborations on the topic of alien plant invasions. At Martin Luther University Halle, Prof. Pauchard gave a public talk entitled “Conifer invasions in southern South America”. He also discussed with Dr. Sylvia Haider, Assistant Professor at this university, the future activities and publications of the Mountain Invasion Research Network (MIREN). In this same city, Prof. Pauchard met with Drs. Stefan Klotz and Ingolf Kuhn from the Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) to discuss collaborative ties between the Laboratory of Biological Invasions and the UFZ that would allow the exchange of academics and students.
At the University of Göttingen, Prof. Pauchard visited the Department of Silviculture and Temperate Forest Ecology, headed by Prof. Christian Ammer. The Faculty of Forest Sciences is currently carrying out a joint project with this department to study native forests in the Province of Concepción and the impact of human activities on their conservation, a project led by Dr. Burkhard Müller-Using. This project includes the work of postdoctoral fellow Dr. Steffi Heinrichs who has studied the plant diversity of the Nonguén Reserve.
