Through a catalogue, researchers provided updated, corrected and synthesized information on the flora present in the continental and island territories.
It took 33 years to obtain the most up-to-date and complete record of vascular flora found in the country. A team of researchers from the University of Concepción presented the “Catalogue of vascular plants of Chile”, published by the Gayana Botánica magazine, which revealed that there are 5,471 species, of which 4,655 are native, 2,145 endemic and 816 introduced.
The work, which included the participation of scientists from the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB), provides a new update, correction and synthesis of the taxonomic and geographic information on the flora of Chile, including the insular and continental territory, and its current regionalization.
For the counting of the Introduced exotic species, which make up 14.9% of the country’s flora, The database of the Laboratory of Biological Invasions (LIB) , initiative of the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity and the University of Concepcion.
The catalogue is available on the website of the revista Gayana Botánica.
